Isn’t the market saturated with health and fitness professionals? This question often arises during my online event, “The Ultimate Job for Active and Healthy Adults Over 50.” It’s a sentiment I understand completely. Everywhere you look, whether it’s on social media, in articles, on news shows, at gyms, or in magazines, it seems like health and fitness professionals are everywhere. This feeling is particularly pronounced for active and fit individuals who actively seek out health and fitness information. However, it’s important to recognize that there is always room for more voices.
In my conversation with Traci Townsend, she made a powerful point that in a world with so many people, you can always find your own community. The expansive global reach provided by the internet and social media makes it easy to broaden our horizons and find the people that value and want our services. I shared with her my own experience, likening it to the notion of starting a podcast in a sea of podcasts. When you think about it, no one tells music artists to “stop making music; we have enough music in the world!” Likewise, nobody discourages writers from continuing to write, saying, “We have enough books and articles in the world!” That sounds crazy.
The reality is that having a diverse array of backgrounds and experiences within the health and fitness profession is a tremendous advantage. It enables us to tap into a wider range of perspectives and innovative approaches when it comes to promoting health and wellness. So, while it might seem like the field is saturated, there’s always room for fresh voices and unique perspectives to contribute to the ongoing conversation about health and fitness.
